SELF CONVERSATIONS | with Alice Browning of The Fold

We sat down with Alice Browning, an inspired yoga teacher and creator of the innovative online movement & meditation platform The Fold to discuss self care, business and the connectedness of it all.

Can you tell us a little bit about The Fold?

At The Fold we believe in shaping the future of Women’s Wellness through ongoing, on-demand, empowering education with our community of Practitioners, Healers, and Teachers, which caters to women in each of their unfolding seasons and life stages

We offer Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Mindfulness and  empowering conversations for women, from women.

What activities do you find most regenerating?

Presently, I’m crushing hard on Yoga Nidra, sweet Slow Flows and the pockets of Winter Sun warming my back… oh and a morning latte, always an AM Almond latte.

How has your approach to self care evolved over time?

In so many ways, Motherhood has deeply and irrevocably shifted my approach to self care. The subtle and small moments, rituals and practices now have the greatest effect for me in the long run. 25 mins on my mat, 30 mins at the beach, a slice of quiet, they all add up.

What led you to create your business?

The Fold was borne from what we saw lacking when we spoke to women. They were being encouraged to move, eat and self-care in a way that neglected their shifting hormones and current life season, with a complete disregard for the natural ebb and flow of womanhood.

What is your favourite form of physical exercise, and why?

Yoga Asana balanced with mat pilates, they compliment each other wonderfully nurturing strength, flexibility, adaptability and resilience.

What are your go-to practices for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Magnesium oil on my belly and soles of feet, CBD oil and a Yoga Nidra in bed, cosy and ready to consciously put the day behind me.

When do you feel your most feminine?

Both mothering my daughter and free flowing on my mat. I guess both of these are practices of embodying a constantly changing state and embracing non linear perspective. Anyone with a toddler can relate! Being a woman and simply inviting yourself to be led intuitively ( if you feel comfortable ) is so damn beautiful, restorative and nourishing.

What is your earliest memory of visiting the hair salon?

I vividly remember asking for and then proudly rocking the christina Ricci bob from Mermaids, it felt so grown up and chic.

When do you love your hair the most?

Freshly washed, it feels smooth, smells delightful and knowing that I've taken the time for self care, always has me feeling and looking lush.

Can you share a simple self-care practice that anyone can start today?

Yes, carve out a pocket of time for yourself, maybe it’s for a tea, or on a solo walk, or on your mat.

Check in with how you are feeling, acknowledge it, and then move forward from that place of knowing and honouring and remember space breeds creativity and creativity is the birthright of the feminine.
